Updates: Have traced the family back to Monmouth, Salem, Cumberland and Ocean counties in New Jersey. As of this writing, we believe we can prove that the family descends from Roger Preston who arrived in America on the good ship Elizabeth & Ann in 1635. He was born in 1614 and came into America to Massachusetts. Migrating to Salem. His son Levi, who married Abigail Brooks migrated to Cumberland County New Jersey in 1709 with a group of Baptists.

       The family spread throughout New Jersey to the other counties and between the years 1815-1819, my direct ancestor (James Preston - brother of William Preston who married Elizabeth JOHN) migrated to Coshocton County, Ohio. We find William in the 1820 census there. We find William and James in the 1830 and 1840 census records there.
